We celebrated the 78th birthday of Pack 7 at the Canon Club in Fairfax. We gave back by doing a community service project to help clean up trash, leaves, and overgrown brush in the area. Once complete, the pack celebrated with an annual pool party and birthday cake. It was a fun afternoon.

The pack hiked into the Shady Bend campsite at Camp Tamarancho and setup camp. From here we took a hike along the B-17 trail and witnessed the old B-17 engine that was left behind from the crash in 1946. Our Webelos helped prepare meals and cooked up a delicious cobbler for dessert. We all earned a Pack Camp patch for participating in the event. Our second pack meeting of the year came with a special surprise. Our scouts were treated by a visit from Classroom Safari! These animal experts brought a bunch of scaly and furry friends to meet and great our cub scouts! Over the summer we met up to learn about different types of geocaches. We went on a day hike in the Loma Alta Open Space Preserve and attempted to find a hybrid letterbox geoachce. This was tricky because instead of coordinates, we had to find clues in a short story, and then follow these clues to the cache. It took some time, but our pack worked together and found the elusive “Coyote’s Journey” geocache. A group of our Pack 7 scouts attended the council’s annual Family Fiesta Days campout. We all explored different stations throughout Camp Tamarancho. We participated in archery, BB guns, slingshots, first aid, morse code, fishing, and walked across the suspended rope bridge. It was a really fun event. We highly recommend it. An annual tradition for Cub Scouts, the 2018 Pack 7 Pinewood Derby was a success! We designed, crafted, painted, lubed, and raced our cars. Our scouts then voted on the car they thought was best of show. Our Wolf Den organized a camping trip at the Dillon Beach campground. Here we worked on requirements such as communicating via morse code and sign language. We also demonstrated sportsmanship by participating in organized games on the beach, and at dinner, we learned about fire safety. We each took a turn roasting marshmallows and making smores. After dark we learned about light painting with neon necklaces and a camera. Then it was bedtime. Pack 7 scouts were invited to take a tour of the Ross Valley Fire Department’s Fairfax Station. Here we explored the kitchen, offices, and living quarters of our local fire department. We then got a tour of a fire truck and a demonstration of all the tools used to do the job. Each scout that participated in the event was able to shoot water out of a real fire hose! The Wolf Den organized a day hike at Ring Mountain on the Tiburon Peninsula. This spot is well known for hiking, birding, and bouldering. The Dodsworth Family treated us to an educational presentation on mountain climbing, climbing safety, tools, and told us stories of being a guide on El Capitan in Yosemite. We had lunch and after a short safety demonstration, our scouts sampled bouldering first hand. We traversed across some large rocks and got a taste of this fun activity. |
